Mikayla Schut - Viticulture Technician, PCA
Originally from Escalon, California, Mikayla grew up surrounded by agriculture but never initially envisioned a career in the industry. After beginning college at the University of Nevada, Reno as a Psychology major, she quickly realized that a traditional office career path was not the right fit. Drawn to the opportunity to work outdoors and pursue a more hands-on profession, she discovered a passion for agriculture and transferred to Cuesta College, then to Cal Poly SLO to study Wine and Viticulture. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in December 2024.
Mikayla's first experience in the wine industry came in 2022, working in both vineyard and winery operations at an estate winery near her hometown. In 2023, she joined Pacific Coast Farming as a viticulture intern, where she participated in many aspects of production including irrigation, tractor work, vineyard scouting, and sugar sampling. In January 2025, she was hired as PCF’s full-time Viticulture Technician. She obtained her Pest Control Adviser license shortly after.
Today, Mikayla enjoys the unique combination of science, agriculture, and fieldwork that viticulture provides. Outside of work, she can often be found running, golfing, surfing, practicing yoga, and overall exploring the many opportunities the Central Coast has to offer.
